Greetings Trippers!
As a twenty something with third floor knocking with all its might almost breaking the door, (ehem!) I started questioning myself. What have I done with my life so far? What do I have to show for it? Cough! Cough! Story for another day.
Anyway, another thing that really shocked me is that apart from the location of my house and schools I have attended, and a few handful places, (lol)…….. Do I even know my country yawa?. Not just names, na si story za kujua places cause umeiskia kwa news. Halafu sisi ni wale ‘faithful’ Kenyans not having ‘cheated’ on Kenya by having our feet step on another country. Chei!
Long story short, I didn’t like my answer, and this year, 2019, I have decided imma do something about it. Imma rise above the horizon and smell the coffee from all corners of not only Kenya, but the world.
So why don’t we start with a location from my hometown,
MOMBASA GO-KART
My my. Needless to say, If you are an adrenaline junky, this is the place to be.
Location–
Located at Shanzu, Mombasa, Kenya. Just along the Malindi road……you can’t miss it.
How to get there–
Matatus that ply through that route such as Mtwapa matatus. This is the cheapest mode
Tuktuks
Motorbikes
Uber is also available in this area
Time-
It opens around 3:30pm till 10:00pm.
My advice- the best time to race is visit late in the evening as from around 6pm when the sun has set to avoid ‘joto‘ (heat).
Cost-
I did the 10minutes go kart race and I loved every second of it. It costed Kshs 1,200. The cost varies depending on the package and also on whether you are a citizen or resident.
There are various activities that you can undertake in this place such as zip-lining, paint-balling, archery tag, etc.
My favorite was, of course, the go kart.
You can also “down a cold one” (well…drinks are both alcoholic and non alcoholic) from the restaurant.
Quick pointers though…
Wear comfortable pants, or shorts if you like when you come down to race.
Ladies, your cute ‘lil’ dresses and skirts won’t do here. Also, ladies don’t wear your hair in high ponytails as your helmet has to fit.
As for shoes, you need proper shoes that won’t come off or slide when you step on the gas and pedal breaks. But no worries, they do provide shoes in case yours are not appropriate to their safety standards.
The fun part is, you don’t even need experience to ride a go kart. You don’t even need to know how to drive a car. It is super easy. Of course you are taken through the safety measures before a race especially for first timers.
And also, ASK QUESTIONS! Don’t be afraid to do so before the race. Trust me, with knowledge comes some form of confidence and calm- best recipe to enjoy the go-kart experience.
The track is amaze-balls and big enough for you to have a ride to your satisfaction and also value for your money. 10 minutes sounds small but when you are on the track, you lose sight of that when the adrenaline kicks in.
I am definitely going to visit Mombasa Go-Kart next when I am back in town and I get a chance to.

You have nothing to worry about! The go-karts can be ridden by both tall and short people. So come on down to Mombasa and feed on adrenaline at the tracks tripper.
